Pizza is one of my favorite foods and this dough makes the best crust!
3 1/2 to 4 cups bread flour, plus more for rolling
1 tsp sugar
2tsp salt
1 envelope dry instant yeast (aka 2 1/4 tsp dry instant yeast)
1 1/2 cups water, 110 degrees F (aka quite warm but not boiling–just run the hot tap for a bit)
2 tbsp olive oil, plus 2 tsp
Combine the bread flour, sugar, yeast and kosher salt in a bowl and combine with a whisk. Once combined add 2 tablespoons of the oil and the water and then stir until the dough forms into a ball. If the dough is sticky, add additional flour, 1 tablespoon at a time, until the dough comes together in a solid ball. If the dough is too dry, add additional water, 1 tablespoon at a time.
Here’s where we go off recipe if you clicked the link above. I don’t take the dough out of the mixing bowl and knead it. I just throw a tea towel over the bowl and let it proof for 30minutes.
Then, after 30min or longer, I flour a surface in the kitchen and separate the dough into 3 balls. I find this makes 3 full pizzas.
Flour a surface area and then pound/stretch out the dough to your desired size using your hands. Next, put it onto a greased baking sheet (or pizza stone you fancy pants) and top the pizza how you please! We love Raos tomato sauce so that’s what we use as our base, but this is when you get creative and make the pizza of your dreams.
We have discovered we only need to make 2 pizzas in one night so I freeze the third ball of pizza dough to use another time. I also just use All Purpose Flour instead of bread flour because that’s my universal flour in our house. I am not a baker. Apparently, the use of bread flour leads to a crispier crust…I love the crust we get with All Purpose Flour so I’m not bothering with special flour but if you try this recipe out with bread flour…let me know how it works!
My family and I are OBSESSED with this pizza dough recipe. It is so easy, it only needs 30min to proof! I throw it together at 4:30pm in like 5min (I’ve got this recipe down) and then we’re making pizza by 5:15pm. The most important part is that this crust tastes incredible!!! This is not like the crap Boboli crust you used making pizza at home as a kid. This is delicious pizza crust and I legit prefer it to ordering pizza.
This recipe gets a 3 out of 5 on the difficulty/clean up scale and a 2 out of 5 on the time consumption scale.
We made Friday pizza movie night a tradition during the pandemic and we can’t give it up. I’m permanently booked on Friday nights!
This is still my dream…
